Gymnema Sylvestre on the Glyco Reset Label: What a Pharmacist Would Flag
Gymnema sylvestre is a vine whose leaf is sold as an extract, and Gymnema Leaf Extract is the eighth name in the Glyco Reset blend. LiverTox says effectiveness in diabetes has not been shown. Its typical supplement dose is 400 mg three times a day, while the whole blend is 200 mg.

The plant01
What is gymnema sylvestre, and where is it on the label?
Gymnema sylvestre is a woody climbing vine, and its leaf extract is the eighth of the twenty-one names in the Glyco Reset proprietary blend.
The label prints no amount for it. It shares one 200 mg total with the other twenty names, in the order the label lists them: maca, African mango, grape seed, guarana, eleuthero, astragalus, green tea, then gymnema.
LiverTox describes the leaf extract as a herbal product and notes that it is not approved as a therapy in the United States (LiverTox, Gymnema). The label makes no such claim. It says only "Health Supplement", with the brand's "healthy glucose utilization" wording and an FDA statement.
The research02
Does gymnema leaf extract do anything for blood sugar?
The research is mixed, and LiverTox says effectiveness of gymnema in diabetes has not been shown.
In lab and animal work, gymnema extracts lowered blood sugar. In human trials LiverTox reports mild decreases in fasting glucose, but also increases in A1C (LiverTox, Gymnema). Two readings pointing opposite ways is why we make no claim about it.
NCCIH adds a broader point: it found no reliable evidence that any herbal supplement helps manage diabetes (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements). We found no trial of this bottle, so nothing here measures the drops.
| Item | Source (LiverTox) | Glyco Reset label |
|---|---|---|
| Typical supplement amount | 400 mg, three times a day | Not shown |
| Trial amounts | 300 to 500 mg, once or twice a day | Not shown |
| Whole blend | Not applicable | 200 mg, shared by 21 names |
| Study of this bottle | None found | |
The arithmetic03
How does the 200 mg blend compare with a gymnema dose?
Even if the whole 200 mg were gymnema, it would be half of one 400 mg serving and one sixth of the 1,200 mg a day that LiverTox calls typical.
That is a ceiling, not a guess. The label does not split the blend, so gymnema must be less than 200 mg, and by how much is not printed. Federal rules ask only for the total and the names in descending order of weight (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR), Supplement Facts and proprietary blends).
The same fact cuts both ways. A small share makes a trial result harder to apply to the drops. It also means we cannot say the cautions below do not apply, because the amount is unknown.
Medicine check04
Is gymnema safe with diabetes medicine like metformin or insulin?
No source we read says gymnema is safe with diabetes medicine, and a pharmacist should see the label first.
LiverTox found that gymnema extracts lowered blood sugar in lab studies, and ADA warns that some supplement ingredients "could intensify the effects of your diabetes medications", which means low blood sugar (ADA, Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements (diabetes.org)). We found no gymnema-specific interaction statement in an official source.
Keep taking prescribed medicine, and tell your doctor and pharmacist about every supplement (MedlinePlus, Metformin). A reading of 70 mg/dL or lower counts as low, and severe low blood sugar, fainting or a seizure is an emergency: call 911 (Mayo Clinic, Hypoglycemia). Only blood tests diagnose diabetes or prediabetes (NIDDK, Diabetes Tests & Diagnosis).
Why these questions: (Mayo Clinic, Hypoglycemia) (MedlinePlus, Metformin) (ADA, Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements (diabetes.org)) (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements) (MSK, Licorice (About Herbs)) (LiverTox, Green Tea). A checklist, never a clearance: only your doctor or pharmacist can say a supplement is right for you.
Side effects05
What are the gymnema side effects and quality concerns?
Gymnema side effects are poorly documented in the official sources we read, and LiverTox says product purity is poorly standardized.
LiverTox gives gymnema a liver score of D on its own scale and says purity is poorly standardized, so content can vary between products (LiverTox, Gymnema). That matters for a blend: the label gives no way to check how much leaf extract a dropper holds.
- Stop and call a doctor for yellow skin or eyes, dark urine or severe stomach pain after starting any supplement.
- The label prints no warning text in what we have, so read the one on your bottle.
- We found no study of gymnema in pregnancy or in children; ask a physician first if either applies.
These points describe the plant, not a finding about Glyco Reset.

Reading on06
Where should you go from here?
Read the rest of the blend before judging gymnema alone, because the cautions add up across names.
The green tea and guarana page covers caffeine, and the medicine check collects every medicine caution in one place. The ingredients page lists all twenty-one names.
Check the proprietary blend page to see why no amount is printed, and pack prices if you decide to order. Confirm price and guarantee at checkout.
FAQ07
Gymnema and Glyco Reset: questions people ask
What is gymnema sylvestre used for in supplements?
Gymnema sylvestre leaf extract is sold with blood sugar in mind. LiverTox says effectiveness in diabetes has not been shown and the extract is not approved as a therapy in the United States. Glyco Reset lists it without an amount.
How much gymnema is in Glyco Reset?
The label does not say. Gymnema Leaf Extract is one of twenty-one names sharing a 200 mg proprietary blend total, so it is under 200 mg by arithmetic. The exact amount per dropper is not printed.
Can you take gymnema with metformin?
We found no official source that clears it. Ask your pharmacist before the first dropper, keep taking metformin as prescribed and mention every supplement. MedlinePlus says to continue metformin even if you feel well.
Does gymnema cause low blood sugar?
LiverTox says gymnema extracts lowered blood sugar in lab studies and mild fasting glucose drops appeared in human trials. People on diabetes medicine should know the signs of a reading at 70 mg/dL or lower.
What are common gymnema side effects?
Official sources we read list few. LiverTox gives it a liver score of D and notes poorly standardized purity. If you notice yellow skin, dark urine or severe stomach pain, stop and call a doctor.
What dose of gymnema did the trials use?
LiverTox gives a typical supplement amount of 400 mg three times a day, with trials at 300 to 500 mg once or twice a day. The Glyco Reset blend as a whole is 200 mg.
Is gymnema the same as gymnema leaf extract?
Gymnema is the plant, and the extract is a concentrated product made from its leaf. The Glyco Reset label names Gymnema Leaf Extract. It does not give the extract ratio or the standardization.
